The Beja are a nomadic people of eastern Sudan. The tribe has a long tradition of being skilled warriors, still making weapons by hand into the 20th century.
This is a shield made in the traditional manner, typically they use a rhinoceros or hippopotamus hide. It's a rare find, likely dating back to the early 20th century.
